How to play Utopia

How to play Utopia

Utopia is one of the most powerful Xyz decks currently in Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links . With its formidable OTK potential, high flexibility , and ability to apply pressure right from the first turn , Utopia is a top pick in many ranked tournaments and even the Tier List meta.

This deck is not only accessible + easy to play thanks to the suitable main/mini boxes, but also possesses a fast match pace and an effective combo support system from the ZEXAL II skill – Power the Future .

You can use each of this Skill's second and third effects once per turn and twice per Duel. 1: You cannot Special Summon any monsters from your Extra Deck, except Xyz Monsters, and you cannot Special Summon any monsters with Spell/Trap Cards, except "Utopia" monsters with 2500 ATK and/or DEF. 2: Can be activated by shuffling 1 card from your hand into the Deck and revealing 1 "ZS -" monster or 1 "Astraltopia" in your hand. Yuma and Astral build the Overlay Network! ZEXAL Ⅱ morph! Add up to 2 "ZS -" monsters and/or "Astraltopia" from your Deck to your hand. 3: Can be activated after morphing by shuffling 1 card from your hand or field into the Deck. Reveal the true form of 1 card in your hand, turning it into "Rank-Up-Magic Numeron Force", and play 1 "Number 39: Utopia" from outside of your Deck.

This deck has three key pieces: ZS - Armed Sage , ZS - Ascended Sage , and Astraltopia . Our ability – ZEXAL II – allows us to reveal one of these three cards, shuffle another back into the deck, enter 'Super Saiyan God' mode, and search for the remaining two. This ability can be used once per turn and twice per battle . This basically means that any of these cards are starters, including Reinforcement of the Army (ROTA), which can search for any of them. That means we have 2 + 3 + 5 + 3 + 1 = 9 starters in our deck.

That means we’ll almost never get bricked. And the effect also gives us an added bonus – well, not exactly +2 because you have to shuffle a card from your hand back into the deck, but it’s useful because the deck has a few bricks, namely Pegasus Twin Saber and Double or Nothing. So we’ve got 9 starters in our deck and we can shuffle back the bricks. But that’s not all.

The ability’s secondary effect also allows us to shuffle a card from our hand or field back into our deck to summon a Utopia for free – not just any Utopia, but one from our Extra Deck. It’s free, and it also creates a Rank-Up-Magic: Numeron Force by replacing another card in our hand. It replaces that card completely – something that’s pretty unique in Duel Links. But our first move is always to summon ZS - Ascended Sage , since you need to control no monsters to special summon it. Then we special summon ZS - Armed Sage next to it, since it requires you to control exactly one level 4 monster to special summon it.

Zexals in the Main Deck

Our main deck will consist of Zexal weapons with Equip support effects and 3 important Level 4 cards to XYZ the entire strategy. You should always play Leo Arms, Pegasus and Assura as the engine's mandatory cards.

The other cards are your personal choice. If you draw them at the wrong time (brick), you can always shuffle them back into your deck with abilities.
Some cards aren't too bad to draw early in the game because some can be equipped from hand right away.

If you control no cards, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). A "Utopia" Xyz Monster that was Summoned using this card on the field as material gains this effect. ● If this card is Xyz Summoned: You can add 1 "Rank-Up-Magic" Normal Spell from your Deck to your hand. You can only use this effect of "ZS - Ascended Sage" once per turn.

We have a number of ways to search our tools – namely ZS – Ascended Sage and ZS – Armed Sage . When these monsters are used as Xyz Materials, they will allow us to search for: a normal Rank-Up Magic Spell (it will always be Rank-Up Magic – Barian's Force , which is a limited card, but if you draw it early you can shuffle it back into your deck for extra advantage); and Armed Sage will search for a new Zexal monster – including Asura Strike , which we can normal summon as a level 4 monster to extend the combo.

This is made much easier by the fact that: Ascended Sage can Special Summon itself if you control no monsters, and Armed Sage can Special Summon itself if you control exactly one level 4 monster – these conditions are really powerful.

We have the Pegasus Twin Saber card, which can only be equipped from the field to its own monster, so it is often considered a brick card. We intend to equip this card using the effect of Ultimate Leo Utopia Ray .

I really don’t like the name of this monster – it doesn’t make sense. Anyway, it’s a negate effect, but it doesn’t work like a traditional negate effect. It only triggers when your opponent’s effect resolves, and isn’t an activated effect, which is a bit odd.

3 Level 4 monsters Once per turn, you can also Xyz Summon "Full Armored Utopic Ray Lancer" by discarding 1 Spell/Trap and using 1 Rank 4 or lower Xyz Monster you control. (Transfer its materials to this card.) Monsters your opponent controls lose 500 ATK. At the start of the Battle Phase: You can negate the effects of all Attack Position monsters your opponent currently controls. When this attacking card destroys an opponent's monster by battle: You can detach 1 material from this card; it can make a second attack in a row.

2 Level 4 monsters Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Defense Position monster on the field; change it to face-up Attack Position, and if you do, it loses 600 ATK.

2 Level 4 monsters When any player's monster declares an attack: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; change that monster to Defense Position. During either player's turn, while this card is in your Graveyard: You can target 1 "Utopia" monster on the field; Special Summon this card in Defense Position, and if you do, attach that monster to this card as an Xyz Material. You can only use this effect of "Number 98: Antitopian" once per turn.

2 Level 4 monsters During either player's turn, when another card or effect is activated that targets exactly 1 card on the field (and no other cards): You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target another card on the field that would be an appropriate target for that card/effect; that card/effect now targets the new target.

Excition Knight helps us clear the enemy's field quickly but cannot finish off the enemy in that turn.

              Cairngorgon provides direct protection

Photon Papilloperative helps us to switch the enemy monster from defense position to attack position so that we can finish it off easily (because Ultimate Leo Utopia Ray with 5000 ATK summoned via Utopia Double will not be able to attack directly)

At the same time, these cards can also Rank-up to become an Ultimate Leo Utopia Ray.

              Combo

Quick tips if you're going first:

If you start with 2 starter cards or 1 starter and 1 destroyer card

              1. Summon Number 39: Utopia Double (via 2 ZS monsters).

              2. Search a level 4 ZW monster, a Rank-Up spell , and Double or Nothing!

              3. Use your ability to summon Utopia and add Rank-Up-Magic Numeron Force to your hand, but don't use this card because it also negates your cards.

              4. Instead, use Rank-Up-Magic Limited Barian's Force to upgrade your Utopia.

              5. Rank-up additional level 4 Xyz monsters , depending on the opponent's situation.

👉 By doing this , you ensure that the remaining card in your hand will be a starter or an important staple for turn 3 , while maximizing your disruption potential instead of having to rely on drawing cards on the next turn.

              Popular Combo

First , you need to have one of three level 4 monsters (ZS - Armed Sage , ZS - Ascended Sage or Astraltopia ).
You use your skill to reveal 1 of the 3 , shuffle another card back into the deck , and find the remaining 2 cards from the Deck to your hand .

              1. Special Summon Ascended Sage , then special summon Armed Sage next to it.

              2. Use the skill to shuffle 1 card from your hand into your deck , turning another card in your hand into Rank-Up-Magic Numeron Force and summon Utopia onto the field .

              3. Use the new Numeron Force to Rank-Up Utopia into Leo Utopia Ray .

              4. You can then stack Ascended and Armed to summon Utopia Double .

At this point, Ascended and Armed will trigger the effect :

              • Ascended will search for a Rank-Up Spell (choose Limited Barian's Force ).

              • Armed will find a Zexal Weapon (choose ZW – Assura Strike ).

              1. Activate Utopia Double to search for Double or Nothing! , then Rank-Up yourself into another copy of Leo Utopia Ray , and this Leo Ray will have its ATK doubled .

              2. You now have 2 Leo Rays , each of which can extract 1 material to equip a ZW weapon from the Deck.

👉 The standard weapons you should equip are ZW – Leo Arms and ZW – Pegasus Twin Saber .

              1. Since you control an Xyz monster, you can Special Summon Astraltopia from your hand . Activate it to discard 1 card from your hand , and search for Numbers Protection .

              2. You then normal summon Ouka , then stack Astraltopia with Ouka to summon a meta-appropriate level 4 Xyz monster (like Abyss Dweller , Giant Hand , Steel Swarm Roach , or Karen Gorgon ).

              3. Set Numbers Protection face down — this will be a very powerful Omni Negate .

              Your End Board includes:

              • 2 Leo Utopia Ray : each can disable an opponent's monster if equipped with a ZW weapon (unlimited 1 time per turn).

              • ZW – Pegasus Twin Saber : disables monster effects while they are being resolved (hard to block with Chain Block).

              • Numbers Protection : negates any card (Omni Negate).

👉 Total of 4 negates , from only 1 starter card , and 1 additional level 4 Xyz monster depending on the meta.

              Anti-Nibiru Combo

              1. Reveal one of three level 4 monsters with an ability , then search the remaining two cards from the Deck .

              2. Special Summon Ascended from hand, then special summon Armed from hand , then stack both to call Utopia Double .

              3. When summoned, Utopia Double will seek out Ocura and Limited Barian's Force .

              4. Since you control an Xyz monster, you can special summon Astraltopia and discard Limited Barian's Force to find Numbers Protection .

              5. Then activate Utopia Double to find Double or Nothing , then evolve into Leo Utopia Ray .

=> This will be your fifth summon — meaning your opponent can activate Nibiru from this point on , but if you play carefully it should be fine.

              6. Next, normal summon Ocura , then stack with Astraltopia to summon a level 4 Xyz monster , such as Abyss Dweller .

You can activate Leo Ray to equip a ZW weapon from your deck .
If you suspect your opponent is holding Nibiru , you can place a trap on the field , then end the Main Phase .

👉 At this point, if your opponent uses Nibiru , you can use the skill again to:

              • Shuffle a card from your hand into the deck ,

              • Turn a card in your hand into Rank-Up-Magic Numeron Force ,

              • Summon Utopia from the Extra Deck ,

              • Then Rank-Up to another Leo Ray ,

              • Equip an additional ZW weapon from the Deck .

This way you can still set up a strong board even if Nibiru destroys it midway .

❗ If your opponent doesn't have Nibiru , using the remaining skill to summon another Leo Utopia Ray with Numeron Force will disable the rest of your field . So, save that skill for the next turn.

              When going behind

The gameplay will be similar to the previous one , but there are a few important differences .

First of all, instead of summoning basic Xyz monsters first like Abyss Dweller ,
You can summon appropriate Xyz monsters to go next , such as:

              • Evilswarm Exciton Knight to disrupt the opponent's board and set up defenses .

              • Karen Gorgon to redirect target selection effects .

              • Utopic Ray Lancer to make the opponent's field less dangerous .
