Instructions for building and playing a Chain Burn deck

Chain Burn is a pretty great deck and as a non-meta, it can counter the meta and cause some extremely annoying situations. Let's find out how the deck will work and be built!

Chain Burn is a deck that relies on creating chains to quickly increase effect damage. Chain Burn is a fairly simple deck, with only a few simple combos and requiring little knowledge of the meta or game to experiment with. The deck primarily uses spells to increase draw power, and traps to intimidate your opponents and defend yourself. Chain Burn was never a meta deck, but went so far as to win the 2017 World Championship in the Dragon Duel (under 12) division.



Core

Chain burn is a pretty flexible deck, with only a few cards that you MUST use to win. Some important leaves are as follows:

    Activate only as Chain Link 2 or higher; inflict 400 damage to your opponent times the Chain Link number of this card. You cannot activate this card if multiple cards/effects with the same name are in that Chain.


    The main strength of the deck, with no limit in Master Duel, compared to limit 1 in TCG, your damage output will be sky high and very satisfying. Dealing 400 damage to each chain link can very quickly lead to each copy reaching the 2000+ damage mark in a 5-6 card combo.

      Inflict 500 damage to your opponent for each monster they control.


      Just ONE simple and absolute card Just Desserts is usually your highest damage card, you can deal up to 3000 damage with just one card activation if your opponent has 6 monsters on the field .

        Special Summon 3 "Ojama Tokens" (Beast-Type/LIGHT/Level 2/ATK 0/DEF 1000) to your opponent's field in Defense Position. They cannot be Tributed for a Tribute Summon, and each time 1 is destroyed, its controller takes 300 damage.


        And here we have one of the most important cards of the deck, the Ojama Trio . This card can allow many other cards to perform their combos, including Just Desserts above, and is often responsible for ending the game in a single chain.

            • Secret Barrel can be paired with our next card - Secret Blast in that they both deal damage based on your opponent's cards and can help you stack chains for Chain Strike .
            • Secret Blast works like Just Desserts as introduced above, except Secret Blast includes spells/traps when dealing damage, so be careful with backrow decks.

              During your opponent's turn: Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls whose ATK is less than or equal to their LP; destroy that face-up monster, and if you do, take damage equal to its original ATK, then inflict damage to your opponent, equal to the damage you took. You can only activate 1 "Ring of Destruction" per turn.


              Despite the potential for high damage in addition to causing disruption, due to the number of monsters destroyed and/or the abundance of immune targets, I would not recommend running more than 2 copies.

                  Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 5 or more cards from your hand, field, and/or Extra Deck, face-down. This card gains 100 ATK/DEF for each face-down banished card. This card cannot be Tributed, nor used as material for a Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Summon. Once per turn, at the start of the Damage Step, if this card battles an opponent's monster: You can banish that opponent's monster, face-down.


                  In fact, you just need to use Banquet of Millions , then DD Dynamite to push the damage. However, the combo will be more extended with Eater of Millions because the summoning condition is to banish cards from the hand, field or/and Extra Deck (something that is not too difficult with this deck).

                  Chain Burn requires a few battle traps to last long enough to finish the match, here we'll look at some options you might want to use.

                    Activate only when an opponent's monster declares an attack. Instead of you, your opponent takes the Battle Damage you would have taken from this battle.


                    Dimension Wall here is a good soldier; you'll often find yourself winning a lot of matches because of it, and the best part is that Dimension Wall doesn't affect the monsters being fought so any immune traps like the Chaos Ancient Gear Giant don't affect the guy This.

                      A simple line of text, and you get yourself a life turn with this card. You can activate it during Draw Phase or Standby Phase if you want to feel safer.

                        Waboku is pretty simple, you will take no combat damage this turn. However, your opponent can still attack, meaning cards like Sky Striker Ace - Hayate can still attack you and activate their effects, making Threatening Roar above a Objective articles are better.

                          When an opponent's monster declares an attack: Destroy as many Attack Position monsters your opponent controls as possible, and if you do, take damage equal to half the combined original ATK of those destroyed monsters, then inflict damage to your opponent equal to the damage you took.


                          Blazing Mirror Force here is a pretty wild card. As a Mirror Force card, it can only be activated when your opponent is attacking, meaning it's pretty useless for building chains at any other time. Another weakness is that many monsters today have kill protection, and will survive an encounter with this card, specifically Eldlich the Golden Lord . However, this card is still good enough to use, if you want to.

                            A great card, even if you start with it you may find yourself holding it on turn two so you don't have to fold in the End Phase. Note that you cannot deal damage to your opponent after using this card, so don't waste your card effects before trying.

                                If this card is Normal Summoned, its original ATK becomes 1000. (Quick Effect): You can Tribute 1 DARK monster; reveal 3 Normal Traps from your Deck, your opponent randomly chooses 1 for you to Set on your field, and you shuffle the rest back into your Deck. You can only use this effect of "Lilith, Lady of Lament" once per turn.


                                Lilith here will usually be the only monster you use in the deck, and of course, this is your normal summoned monster. Lilith allows you to search for common traps of your choice and tailor your trap lineup to your liking.

                                  Banish 1 Normal Trap from your Deck, except "Trap Trick", and Set 1 card with the same name directly from your Deck, also it can be activated this turn. You can only activate 1 Trap Card for the rest of this turn after this card resolves. You can only activate 1 "Trap Trick" per turn.


                                  Trap Trick works similarly to Lilith, in that you can place most of your traps directly from the deck by banishing the second copy. This card will absolutely help you win matches by adding to your combo chain and pulling a Just Desserts or Secret Barrel to end the match after a big combo.

                                    If this Set card in its owner's control has left the field because of an opponent's effect, and is now in the GY or banished: You can Special Summon 1 monster from your Deck or Extra Deck.


                                    Waking the Dragon here is effectively a game ender, where if your opponent activates it, you will very often win the game. Bringing out a Raidraptor - Ultimate Falcon can often spell doom for your opponents. Some other useful cards to have as targets include: Flower Cardian Lightflare , The Last Warrior from Another Planet and Blaze Fenix, the Burning Bombardment Bird .

                                      When your opponent activates a monster effect in their hand or GY, or when your opponent's banished monster effect is activated: Negate its effect, and if you do, inflict 2000 damage to your opponent.


                                      This card is slow and unreliable. HOWEVER, using 1-2 cards at higher ranks may make sense due to the number of handtraps and grave effects that appear in higher level decks. If you can not only negate but also get an additional 2000 damage on the field with this card, you can very well end the game with your remaining combo chain.

                                        Activate by paying 1000 LP. Negate the effects of all face-up monsters while they are face-up on the field (but their effects can still be activated).


                                        Skill Drain is a huge floodgate. A lot of decks can't overcome it, even though it has some disadvantages. Most notably, some popular decks, like Eldlich, simply don't care about its effects. Additionally, Skill Drain is a trap that constantly clogs your field, reducing your chaining potential. Overall a pretty solid card, one that you can definitely keep in your main deck if you feel the need to use it.

                                        During your opponent's turn (Quick Effect): You can banish this card from the GY; excavate the top card of your Deck, and if it is a Normal Trap, Set it to your field. Otherwise, send it to the GY. That Set card can be activated during this turn. If this card is sent to the GY: You can look at 3 cards from the top of your Deck, then place them on the top of the Deck in any order. You can only use each effect of "Absolute King Back Jack" once per turn.


                                        Being able to choose your own card to use during your opponent's turn is very useful. Especially in situations where you really need to deal a lot of damage to end the match.



                                        TIMELORD

                                        I wrote this as a standalone because they conflict with some of the other cards and each other. So if you choose to use Timelord, just pick 1 and run 2-3 copies. The main conflict comes from taking away normal summons from Lilith, Lady of Lament if you draw both, and also conflict with Card of Demise which doesn't allow you to damage your opponent.

                                        If this card battles, you halve your opponent's LP. The effect is quite reasonable, especially if you start with, less relevant as the match continues. This card pairs well with Card of Demise because it can "halve your opponent's LP" without dealing damage, so you can use both Demise and Michion to their fullest in the same turn.

                                        A good form of removal, if Metaion fights, it will bounce as many monsters as possible and deal 300 damage to your opponent for each monster bounced. This does less damage but has the added benefit of eliminating some annoying monsters.



                                        Combos and Chains

                                        Regarding combos, the deck is quite simple. The MOST IMPORTANT thing you need to understand about this deck is that the chains happen in REVERSE ORDER . This means that the LAST card activated in a chain is the FIRST card to activate the effect.

                                                With this set, you'll want to activate them in the following order: Just Desserts / Secret Barrel in any order, followed by Ojama Trio , and finally, Chain Strike . You always want to activate Ojama Trio AFTER damage-dealing cards like Just Desserts because the order in which the effects occur will be in reverse. You can activate two Chain Strikes in this combo, but you will not be able to activate a third due to activation restrictions.

                                                Assuming you start your chain from your opponent's activation, you will have a chain link of 6. resulting in 7700 damage, assuming your opponent has 6 cards and no monsters on the field. Of course, this combo can set up for a win if you time it perfectly.

                                                  Another combo piece that Chain Burn players should know is how to use the Ring of Destruction trigger effect. You cannot target monsters with more ATK than your opponent's LP with Ring of Destruction . To solve this problem, we CAN target a lower ATK monster and CHAIN ​​our other cards for damage before RoD occurs, allowing RoD to deal the final blow.

                                                  So far, from my own experience in the rankings, the matchups aren't too bad.

                                                  Chain Burn copes very well with OTK decks that only generate 1-2 big monsters to try to finish you off like Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon or the Number 100: Numeron Dragon deck, among many others.

                                                  You can Ritual Summon this card with "Meteonis Drytron". Your opponent cannot target this card with monster effects.                                                   You can Ritual Summon this card with "Oracle of the Herald". Must be Ritual Summoned, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. During either player's turn, when your opponent would Special Summon a monster(s), OR activates a Spell Card, Trap Card, or monster effect: You can send 1 Fairy-Type monster from your hand to the Graveyard; negate the Special Summon or activation, and if you do, destroy that card.


                                                  Chain burn also has a favorable matchup against common decks like Eldlich, because most of their decks don't affect us at all, and are basically: extremely brick against them.

                                                  Unfortunately, we lost to some meta decks, especially Drytron and Tri-Brigade.

                                                  Cards like Drytron Meteonis Draconids and Herald of Ultimateness are big problems for chain burn, and we're essentially losing to them.
