Virtual World is a card race consisting of psychic and wyrm monsters with levels/ranks 3, 6, 9. Virtual World monsters can be special summoned from the hand when there are Virtual World cards on the field. The deck's combo is very variable depending on the Virtual World cards on the field, so it takes a lot of practice time to be able to play the deck well.

Instructions for playing Virtual World
Preface
In this article, we have edited and synthesized content from Ygoguidance's article. Sincere thanks to Ygoguidance for giving us the opportunity to complete this article.
Overview & gameplay
Virtual World is a deck with gameplay revolving around monsters with level/rank 3, 6, 9.
The playing deck depends on many factors from the type of card (monster, spell, trap) to the cards on the field, in the deck, and in the grave, making players careful when activating the appropriate monster's effects.
Virtual World monsters in the Main Deck
Virtual World monsters can be special summoned from the hand (except Nyannyan , Toutou ) with the following mechanism:
- Target 1 Virtual World card on your field.
- Send 1 Virtual World card from a deck of a different type than the targeted card (monster, spell, trap).
- After summoning to the field, you can apply the unique effects that each monster has.
Example with Lulu :
If you target Chuche (trap) on the field, before Lulu is summoned to the field you must send 1 Virtual World monster or spell, you cannot send traps in this case.
After Lulu is summoned you can take a card of a different type from both targeted cards and send it to the grave.
- If Lulu sends a spell, you can only add monsters to your hand.
- If Lulu sends a monster, you can only add spell cards to your hand.
(first) If this card is in your hand: You can target 1 "Virtual World" card you control; send 1 "Virtual World" card of a different type (Monster, Spell, Trap) from your Deck to the GY, and if you do, Special Summon this card, then, you can add 1 "Virtual World" card of the third type from your Deck to your hand , except "Virtual World Mai-Hime - Lulu". For the rest of this turn, you can only Special Summon Level/Rank 3 or higher monsters. You can only use this effect of "Virtual World Mai-Hime - Lulu" once per turn. |
Lulu is the main monster of the combo that helps you get the necessary Virtual World card into your hand. Having cards that can help you access quick combo pieces is essential to increase the cohesion and stability of the deck.
(first) If this card is in your hand: You can target 1 "Virtual World" card you control; send 1 "Virtual World" card of a different type (Monster, Spell, Trap) from your Deck to the GY, and if you do, Special Summon this card, then, during the End Phase of this turn, you can add 1 " Virtual World" monster from your GY to your hand , except "Virtual World Xiezhi - Jiji". For the rest of this turn, you can only Special Summon Level/Rank 3 or higher monsters. You can only use this effect of "Virtual World Xiezhi - Jiji" once per turn. |
Jiji is an important monster in the deck with the ability to restore goods. With Jiji , you can get Lulu or other necessary monsters back into your hand. This will give you more resources to combo for the next turns, but Jiji 's action will be delayed until the end phase of the turn you activate that effect.
(first) If this card is in your hand: You can target 1 "Virtual World" card you control; send 1 "Virtual World" card of a different type (Monster, Spell, Trap) from your Deck to the GY, and if you do, Special Summon this card, then, you can Special Summon 1 "Virtual World" monster from your GY in Defense Position , with a different name than the card sent to the GY, but negate its effects. For the rest of this turn, you can only Special Summon Level/Rank 3 or higher monsters. You can only use this effect of "Virtual World Roshi - Laolao" once per turn. |
Laolao can summon himself from his hand and 1 Virtual World from the grave (different from the monster Laolao sent to the grave). Because it is both a tuner and a level 6 monster and can give you 2 monsters on the field, Laolao is very versatile when you have many combo directions such as summoning synchro 9, 12 or xyz 6 or calling out Ultimaya Tzolkin .
|
(1) If
this card is in your hand: You can target 1 "Virtual World" card
you control; send 1 "Virtual World" card of a different type
(Monster, Spell, Trap) from your Deck to the GY, and if you do, Special
Summon this card, then, you can send 1 "Virtual World" card of the
third type from your Deck to the GY, except "Virtual World
Kirin - Lili". For
the rest of this turn, you can only Special Summon Level/Rank 3 or higher
monsters. You
can only use this effect of "Virtual World Kirin - Lili" once per
turn. |
Lili đơn giản giúp bạn gửi gấp đôi số lá bài mà các Virtual World khác có thể gửi.
(first) If a Level 3 monster(s) is Normal or Special Summoned to your field while this card is in your GY (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card as a Tuner, but banish it when it leaves the field , also for the rest of this turn, you can only Special Summon Level/Rank 3 or higher monsters. (2) If this card is banned: You can target 1 of your other banished cards; shuffle it into the Deck. You can only use each effect of "Virtual World Hime - Nyannyan" once per turn. |
Nyannyan is a monster with a different summoning method than the rest of the Datascapes in the main deck. This monster can be summoned from the grave when a level 3 monster is normally summoned or special summoned, in addition, when Nyannyan summons this monster again, it will be considered a tuner.
When Nyannyan is discarded, you can push a discarded card back to the deck (including banished face-down cards), which allows you to restore Virtual World's spells and traps for the next turn. The next or important card has been costed for Pot of Desire .
Normally players will not want to see Nyannyan in their hand when opening a combo because this monster does not have the ability to summon itself from the hand like other Virtual World monsters.
(first) If you control no monsters, or all monsters you control are Psychic and/or Wyrm monsters, you can Normal Summon this card without Tributing . (2) If this card is in your GY: You can discard 1 Psychic or Wyrm monster; Special Summon this card as a Tuner, but banish it when it leaves the field, also for the rest of this turn, you can only Special Summon Level/Rank 3 or higher monsters. You can only use this effect of "Virtual World Oto-Hime - Toutou" once per turn. |
Toutou is a level 6 monster on the field in exchange for your normal summon.
Magic and traps of the Virtual World
(first) Place 1 "Virtual World Gate" card from your Deck face-up in your Spell & Trap Zone , then you can apply any of the following effect(s) in sequence, based on the number of "Virtual World Gate" cards you control. |
Kauwloon is the combo opening card of the deck. You can pull onto the field any Virtual World Gate card you want from the deck, this helps Virtual World monsters like Lulu, Laolao ... to easily summon onto the field and continue the combo.
Virtual World Gate cards are permanent spells and traps, they have 2 effects:
- The effect can affect the opponent or the entire field when they are on the rocks.
- The grave effect has the cost of discarding itself, making Virtual Worlds easier to combo, usually accompanied by the effect of discarding cards in your hand to the grave.
(first) You can banish 1 "Virtual World" card from your GY, then target 1 face-up monster on the field; negate its effects until the end of this turn (even if this card leaves the field). (2) You can banish this card from your GY; add 1 "Virtual World" monster from your Deck to your hand , then send 1 card from your hand to the GY. You can only use each effect of "Virtual World Gate - Qinglong" once per turn. |
For Virtual World, it is very important that you have monsters in your hand.
Qinglong 's effect (2) lets you add 1 Virtual World monster from your deck to your hand, then send 1 card from your hand to the grave by discarding this card from the grave.
(first) You can target 1 face-up card on the field; shuffle 2 of your banished "Virtual World" cards with different names from each other into the Deck, then destroy that card. (2) During your Main Phase: You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 "Virtual World" monster you control; increase or decrease its Level/Rank by 3 until the end of this turn. You can only use each effect of "Virtual World Gate - Chuche" once per turn. |
Chuche is often Kauwloon 's target to open combos.
Chuche 's effect (1) both helps you restore stock and helps you shoot 1 card on the field.
(first) During the Battle Phase, if you control another "Virtual World Gate" card: You can target 1 face-up monster on the field; change its battle position. (2) During your Main Phase: You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 "Virtual World" monster in your GY; Special Summon it , but negate its effects, then send 1 card from your hand to the GY. You can only use each effect of "Virtual World Gate - Xuanwu" once per turn. You can only activate 1 "Virtual World Gate - Xuanwu" per turn. |
Xuanwu 's (1) effect can help you in some situations when you can switch attack positions on monsters on the field.
This card is used more in effect (2). By discarding this card from the Graveyard, you can re-summon 1 Virtual World from the Graveyard (with target) then send 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard. This effect makes it easier for Virtual World to create monsters from the extra deck by providing 1 more material from the grave as well as saving 1 summoning effect of Virtual World monsters.
This card will be very difficult to play if in hand, players will usually send it to the grave with other effects.
Virtual World monsters in the Extra Deck
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters (first) Cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects while you have 2 or more monsters in your GY with the same original Type and Attribute, but different names. (2) You can banish 2 monsters from your GY with the same original Type and Attribute, but different names, then target 1 card on the field; send it to the GY. You can only use this effect of "Virtual World Beast - Jiujiu" once per turn. |
Jiujiu can protect itself if in your grave there are 2 monsters with different names but the same type and attributes.
In addition, effect (2) of Jiujiu can put pressure on the opponent when you can send a card on their field to the grave without destroying it, the effect helps you take the initiative when going later.
This is also an important monster in combos as a material to summon other bosses.
1 Tuner + 1+ non-Tuner monsters (first) Any card sent from the field to the GY is banned instead.
You can only use each of the following effects of "Virtual World Kyubi - Shenshen" once per turn. (2) When your monster declares an attack: You can return 1 banished monster to the owner's GY. (3) During your Main Phase, except the turn this card was sent to the GY: You can banish 2 other monsters from your GY with different original Types and Attributes from each other; Special Summon this card from your GY. |
Shenshen is the final field monster of Virtual World as this monster has an effect that causes cards to be removed from the field to the grave, helping to counter some current decks.
In addition, Shenshen can also revive discarded monsters and can even revive himself from the grave.
2+ Level 3 monsters with the same Type and Attribute (first) Your opponent cannot target this card with card effects while it has Xyz Material. (2) When your opponent activates the effect of a monster with an Attribute that is not on their field, while they control a face-up monster (Quick Effect): You can detach 2 materials from this card; negate the activation. You can only use this effect of "Virtual World Dragon - Longlong" once per turn. |
Longlong has a rather passive effect when you have to completely depend on your opponent's field. However, this is also a good protection monster if you go first. Effect (2) will help you avoid some of your opponent's handtraps while you set up the field.
|
2+ Level 3 monsters (1) Once per turn: You can detach 1 material from this card,
then target 1 face-up monster you control; it cannot be destroyed by battle
until the end of your opponent's turn. (2) Once per turn, after damage calculation, if this card
battled an opponent's monster, while you have 2 or more monsters in your GY
with the same original Type and Attribute as each other: You can banish that
opponent's monster. |
Jaja giúp bạn vượt qua được một vài quái thú khó nhưng phải qua battle phase.
2+ Level 6 monsters (first) Once per turn: You can detach 2 materials from this card, then target 1 face-up card your opponent controls and 1 card in either GY; banish them. (2) If this Xyz Summoned card is destroyed by battle with an opponent's attacking monster, or by an opponent's card effect while in its owner's Monster Zone: You can Special Summon 2 "Virtual World" monsters with the same Type and Attribute as each other from your Deck . You can only use this effect of "Virtual World Phoenix - Fanfan" once per turn. |
Fanfan is a monster that helps you confront decks in the grave. By discarding 2 materials, Fanfan can discard 1 card on the field or in the player's grave (with target). When Fanfan is destroyed by your opponent, you can summon 2 Virtual World monsters from your deck of the same type and attribute to help you stay on the field.
Key monsters
Normally you can finish the combo with Crystal Wing and 1 Dragoon or Caliga .
Caliga is a monster that limits the number of times both players can activate monster effects. Handtrap monsters will not be too necessary because during the combo, you need to use them for Qinglong or Xuanwu , so you can spend 1 activation of this effect for Crystal Wing .
Dragoons used in Virtual World will be different from Dragoons used in other decks because during combos, Virtual World monsters will limit summoning, not allowing you to summon linked monsters.
You can call Dragoon with Muddy (1 synchro 6 monster) instead of having to use the Dragoon package like other decks (1 Dragoon , 1 Red-eyes Fusion , 1 Anaconda , 2 ingredients). However, Dragoon summoned with Muddy will not be able to activate the bombardment effect but is still a large, self-protecting attack monster and 1-block effect.
After you summon Crystal Wing , Tzolkin will remain on the field. You can continue to combo out Muddy , using Muddy and Tzolkin as fusion ingredients:
- Create Dragoon with Muddy instead of Dark Magician and Tzolkin is a dragon monster with effects.
- Go to Caliga with Muddy instead of Aleister and Tzolkin is a DARK monster.
With the ability to flexibly adjust the level to 6, 9 and the ability to spam monsters of Virtual World, the deck can go to Tzolkin very easily.
Tzolkin can summon Crystal Wing very easily without having to synchro summon Crystal Wing .
Crystal Wing is a powerful attack monster and can 1-stop the opponent's monster.
Other cards
Lost Wind can be used like other trap cards. This card can also be placed face-down on the field from the grave, so you can use it for the effect of Qinglong or Xuanwu . When Lost Wind lands on the field, Tzolkin can summon 1 additional monster from the extra deck.
Gravity Collapse is a trap card that can disable the summon of monsters as well as prevent the opponent from having a chance to special summon that turn. You cannot activate this card while Shenshen is on the field.
Extra deck
The monsters in the Virtual World extra deck that you can use are the common synchro monsters 6, 9, 12 or xyz monsters 3, 6, 9. Limit the use of low level/rank monsters. more than 3 in your deck or link monsters as Virtual Worlds will limit you to only being able to summon monsters of level/rank 3 or higher during the turn.
How to play
Cards in hand: 1 Lili , 1 Kauwloon , 1 spell, random trap and 1 random card.
- Use Kauwloon to place Chuche from the deck onto the field.
- Lili in hand targets Chuche on your field to jump onto the field. Lili are 2 Foolish Burials that help you fill up the resources in your grave very quickly. Since Chuche is a trap card, you cannot send additional traps to the grave with Lili . Use Lili 's effect to send Nyannyan and Qinglong from the deck to the grave.
- Qinglong in the grave can use effects, remove Qinglong as cost, add Lulu to hand then send 1 card from hand to grave. Note that in this step you need to leave 1 spell or trap in your hand to trigger Tzolkin 's effects.
- Special summon Lulu to the field by targeting Chuche . Lulu will add Jiji to your hand, so you must send 1 Virtual World spell card from your deck to the grave.
- To special summon Jiji to the field, you need to target another trap card because in this step, you need to send Chuche to the grave.
- Nyannyan in the grave triggers the effect and summons it back to the field.
- Use Tomb Chuche 's effect to increase Lulu 's level to 6.
- Send Lulu and Lili to the grave to summon Tzolkin .
- Set 1 spell or trap card in your hand onto the field to trigger Tzolkin 's effect. You can summon a monster of your choice that matches Tzolkin 's requirements (hint: Crystal Wing ).
- Nyannyan, when summoned from the grave, will turn into a tuner when entering the field and will be removed if he leaves the field. Use Nyannyan and Jiji to summon Muddy Mudragon .
- Use Muddy 's effect to fusion summon Dragoon from the extra deck. End combo.
Comment:
When the combo ends, you will have 2 turret monsters on the field: Crystal Wing and Dragoon .
Crystal Wing will help you negate the activation of a monster effect.
Although Dragoon cannot activate its shooting effect, this is still a great attack monster that can target, destroy, and has 1 negate.
Don't forget that at the end of your turn you can add 1 Virtual World monster (Lulu) to your hand from the grave thanks to Jiji 's effect. You can also use this card to pay the cost of Dragoon .
During the combo process, you will remove 3 cards: Chuche , Qinglong and Nyanyan :
- Nyannyan, when discarded, can help you return a discarded card back to the deck.
- You still have 2 cards left to use on Chuche who is on your field, shooting 1 face-up card on the field.
Cards in hand: 1 Lili , 1 level 3 Virtual World Tuner monster ( Lulu ), any 2 cards.
- Normal summon Lulu to the field.
- Use Lili 's summon effect on the field and send Qinglong and Chuche to the grave.
- Continue to add Lulu from the deck to your hand with Qinglong , then discard the remaining 1 card in your hand to the grave.
- Send Xuanwu from your deck to the grave to special summon Lulu to the field, then add Kauwloon from your deck to your hand.
- Use Chuche 's effect to turn the level of 1 Lulu to 6. Then send this Lulu and Lili to the grave to summon Tzolkin .
- Drop Kauwloon from his hand onto the field to trigger Tzolkin to call Crystal Wing up the field.
- Summon Lili again from the grave with Xuanwu 's effect, then discard 1 card from hand to the grave.
- Synchro summon Shenshen with Lulu and Lili . End combo.
Comment:
Lulu in hand at the beginning of the combo can be replaced with Emergency Teleport and you can still retain your normal summon with Emergency Teleport .
In this combo, you can summon Crystal Wing on the 5th summon, making the opponent's Nibiru useless.
Kauwloon at the end of the combo can activate and pull Chuche directly onto the field.
Cards in hand: 1 Lulu , 1 Kauwloon , any 1 card.
- Use Kauwloon to pull Chuche from the deck onto the field.
- Lulu will target Chuche , sending Qinglong to the grave and summoning it to the field. Then take Lili from the deck into your hand.
- Summon Lili to the field by targeting Chuche , sending Qinglong and Jiji to the grave.
- Synchro summon Shenshen with Lulu and Lili .
- Use Qinglong to add Laolao from your deck to your hand, then send another card from your hand to the grave.
- Summon Laolao to the field, target Chuche to send Nyannyan to the grave, then summon Lili again.
- Use Lili and Laolao to summon xyz to M7 . M7 will activate the effect of regaining Jiji from the grave.
- Jiji summons himself to the field by targeting Shenshen , sending additional Chuche to the grave.
- When Jiji is summoned, Nyannyan can be summoned again from the grave and become a tuner.
- Depending on the situation, you can summon additional synchro monsters 6 or 9 or xyz 3. Chuche in the grave gives you more flexibility if you continue the combo.
Comment:
Jiji at the end of your turn can help you regain 1 Virtual World monster to your hand.
You can continue to combo out Wolfrayet or Crocodragon:
- Nyannyan will be removed if he leaves the field, you can return 1 banished card back to the deck. You still have 2 cards left to cast the card shooting effect on Chuche 's field.
- When Crocodragon is summoned, you will draw 1 more card and this is 1 bombardment during your opponent's turn.
In the combo, you get Shenshen in the early stages. If you get hit by Nibiru, you still have 1 Shenshen that can be summoned from the grave to stay on the field.
Virtual Small World

Using Small World gives you access to the combo piece before starting the combo. You can also use Small World at the end of the combo, exchanging 1 extra Virtual World monster in your hand for a handtrap to stop your opponent.
(first) Reveal 1 monster in your hand and show 1 monster in your Deck with its same Type, Attribute, Level, ATK, or DEF (exactly 1 of these), and if you do, banish the revealed monster face-down , then add 1 monster from your Deck to your hand with the same Type, Attribute, Level, ATK, or DEF (exactly 1 of these) as the shown monster, and if you do, banish the shown monster face-down . You can only activate 1 "Small World" per turn. |
Small World effects will revolve around 3 monsters:
- Beast (1) in hand will be removed face-down (this monster will be revealed from hand).
- Beast (2) in the deck will be discarded face-down (you will show this monster to your opponent).
- Monsters (3) in the deck will be added to the hand.
The monsters will be compared in terms of characteristics: Type, Attribute, Level, ATK, DEF.
- Beast (1) must be like a beast (2) exactly 1 out of 5 characteristics.
- Next, monster (2) must be the same as monster (3). exactly 1 out of 5 characteristics.
Using Small World will reduce the cards in your hand by 1, but in return you can add any monster to your hand if your deck has appropriate related monsters.
